چکیده
Introduction Many industries are calling for electronics that can operate reliably in harsh environments, including extremely high temperatures. Traditionally, engineers had to rely on active or passive cooling when designing electronics that must function outside of normal temperature ranges, but in some applications, cooling may not be possible—or it may be more appealing for the electronics to operate hot to improve system reliability or reduce cost. This choice presents challenges that affect many aspects of the electronic system, including the silicon, packaging, qualification methodology, and design techniques.

Precision analog-to-digital converters are popularly used in many applications, such as instrumentation and measurement, PLM, process control, and motor control. Current SAR ADCs go up to 18-bit or even higher resolution at x-MSPS, while Σ-Δ ADCs can be 24or 32-bit resolution at hundreds of kSPS. Users are facing more and more difficulties in limiting the signal chain noise, like in implementin...

The need to measure, control, and communicate with machinery and equipment has existed since the earliest days of the Industrial Revolution, with instrumentation systems employing sensors and actuators becoming the backbone of the modern manufacturing plant. Communication employing 4-mA-to-20-mA analog current signals to carry data and settings over wires has long been in widespread use. But in...

When heart patients with implanted pacemakers undergo electrocardiogram (ECG) testing, a cardiologist must be able to detect the presence and effects of the pacemaker. The electrical signature—or artifacts—of the pacing signal consists of small, narrow pulses. Buried in noise and larger cardiac signals, these artifacts can be difficult to detect. This article describes the nature of pacing arti...
